I call people a 'Garden Weasel' It's great, it's like a weasel, or a garden variety of weasel or an inept gardening tool. Either way it's a put-down, and it's funny.
If you don't think so, you are a garden weasel.

Garden-weasel, eh? Not funny. Guess that makes me one 'cuz putting people down in not cool.
What makes it a funny putdown is because it is so ridiculous! If you knew me, you'd know that I'm not the type to hand out put-downs. Especially not serious ones -- which this one isn't. And if I didn't know you well enough, I probably wouldn't use playful ones either. Really sarcasm is something I pretty much don't do anymore. I spent some time pondering the nature of sarcasm, and of joking. I think a lot of times, it keeps people at an arms length of distance. So, if I knew you, and if you wanted, I would try to give you a 100% positive-only friendship/relationship/acquantanceship. Most people are either not willing or not able to relate that way. It tends to move towards intimacy, and most people don't like that. I think it should be a goal. Another thing.. without a little playful banter, friendships can often get boring. So really, the garden weasel joke doesn't apply to you. But then it was only a joke. =)
Most people who read my blog (at least I think most of them) know me well enough to have had several positive, relational building experiences.
I think friendships/relationships work a little like a bank. You need to deposit with positive before you can really joke. Joking being primarily negative. Whether it's said to be "serious" or not, joking is almost always negative.
So then -- to you, 'Anonymous' -- If I knew you in real life, I would probably have not joked with you before making sure you were ok with it. I am sensitive, and I notice things. And, I would have probably made sure to build you up before joking with you.
---And more on what's Godly--- I've also thought that if I started to take out the joking, and self-gratifying entertainment, etc. from my life, that the only reasonable thing to do would be Godly things to fill that time slot.
I think, if most joking is negative, in heaven there won't be that kind of joking. The angels probably aren't joking that way. So what's left? What do we do when say about 6 of us from church hang out at someone's house? Usually we joke, watch movies, play games, ..... and make sure to avoid anything deep or God related. I could go for some God stuff. I could go for some worship, or conversation, or action... Always, every time we hang out. I think that would keep us focused, and encourage progress. Does anyone want to do this?
Hey Chris, you Garden Weasel, you! Come on Wednesday nights to hang out, joke, watch movies, worship & pray.... but leave the Garden Weasel thing-a-ma-jig at the door, ok???

Hold on, are you saying it's not funny AS a put-down or it's not funny BECAUSE it's a put-down?
not funny BECAUSE it's a put-down. since when is putting someone down and calling them names Godly?
